Purpose of the Green Cool Schools website
The “Green Cool Schools” website provides teachers at secondary school level 1 with well-founded, self-service teaching and learning materials creating a sound knowledge base for school greening. The website aims at empowering teachers to teach pupils aged 10 to 14 the basics of sustainable greening giving them knowledge that can be applied both at school and at home. What is promoted in terms of green behaviour at school can then be taken home and applied there ensuring that the subject is further highlighted.
The materials are available in the following languages: Austrian, Basque, English, German, Spanish. Austrian was added as a separate language additional to German, because of some different vocabulary used in the context and further to be able to provide country-specific information.
The self-service materials are prepared to be used quickly and are self-explanatory. To help avoid long preparation times instructions are provided that serve as a framework for teaching in class. The material is therefore also suitable for substitute lessons.
Since teachers have little time for lengthy lesson preparations the materials are designed to be grasped quickly in terms of content, timing etc., so that green skills can be taught easily, and the materials can be integrated flexibly into different subjects.
The hands-on teaching and learning materials for the secondary school level 1 serve as an introduction to sustainable, climate- and soil-zone-adequate greening of schools. The materials convey awareness and knowledge about the preconditions of long-lasting, sustainable school greening. Furthermore, they show various implementation potentials for greening in schools based on experimental instructions on how to best get started.
