There is an open-air classroom at the school called the “rooftop classroom”. New benches were urgently needed for this. The idea was to build more stable and comfortable benches out of the makeshift stools (wine bottle crates). The requirement was to build new benches as resource-efficiently, cheaply and quickly as possible. The project class began with a plastics workshop in which they learned important information about waste and recycling<\/a>, second hand and resource conservation. There was also an excursion – the class visited various locations in Vienna on the topics of upcycling<\/a> (Garbarage), second hand (Carla, vintage shopping..) and low-waste shopping (Lush). The construction day took place on April 18th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – in somewhat frosty temperatures, new benches were built for the open-air classroom. With the professional support of the friendly team at the Green School, the hard-working students completed their upcycling<\/a> project with great enthusiasm. To do this, the students connected the school’s wine crates, which had previously served as seating, with larch wood and thus built comfortable, practical and inexpensive benches for the open-air classroom. Additional old metal cans were recycled and used as containers for plants.A slightly raised teacher’s table was also made at the end with the remaining materials. Everyone took part with full physical effort and a lot of enthusiasm!<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We also wanted to take up the topic of upcycling<\/a> and bring it closer to the students by building sustainable seating options.
