What is/was the motivation for the project?

I am the head of the school gardening group at Reutershagen High School in Rostock and we would like to transform the concrete jungle in front of our sports hall into a beautiful flower meadow. At the moment there is a concrete depression in front of the sports hall in which three trees stand and all kinds of weeds grow. Lots of children throw rubbish into it and it is not a pretty sight (see pictures).

How is/was the project financed?

The project is supported by the students, parents and the caretaker.

What are the (planned) results?

We would like to transform this concrete depression into a raised bed and initially create a flower meadow and possibly grow our own vegetables in the future. For this we need new topsoil and seeds. This not only promotes biodiversity in our schoolyard but also beautifies the school grounds. Our school gardening group at Reutershagen High School consists of 20 students from grades 6-8. Our group is special because we are a school where highly gifted students and regular students can learn together under one roof.

How comprehensively were the ideas, desires, and demands of the students integrated into the initiative?

Does your initiative present itself to the public in any way?
