Es una parte importante de nuestro entorno y la base de la vida en la Tierra. El suelo, como capa de <a href=\"https:\/\/greencoolschools.eu\/es\/glossary\/meteorizacion\/\" target=\"_self\" title='Las influencias f&iacute;sicas, como el viento, el agua, el calor y el fr&iacute;o, o los procesos qu&iacute;micos, como la lixiviaci&oacute;n de tiza de las monta&ntilde;as de piedra caliza, provocan grietas en la roca. Cuando llueve sobre piedra caliza, se forma &aacute;cido carb&oacute;nico (H2CO3) a partir de H2O y CO2 y disuelve la cal. Los organismos del suelo tambi&eacute;n pueden alterar qu&iacute;micamente el suelo y las ra&iacute;ces pueden remodelar mec&aacute;nicamente el suelo. El material inicial para la formaci&oacute;n del suelo fue la roca de la superficie terrestre, que solo con el paso del tiempo, a trav&eacute;s de la erosi&oacute;n y la formaci&oacute;n de humus, se convirti&oacute; en el suelo tal y como lo conocemos hoy en d&iacute;a. El proceso de formaci&oacute;n de un suelo, tal y como lo encontramos hoy, dura unos 10.000 a&ntilde;os. Durante este tiempo, puede crecer varios metros o s&oacute;lo unos cent&iacute;metros. Esto depende del tipo de roca, del relieve, del clima y del ser humano. La erosi&oacute;n crea grietas. Las part&iacute;culas de tierra arrastradas por el viento y el agua se acumulan en estos espacios. Las plantas pioneras tambi&eacute;n se asientan Los minerales, que sirven de nutrientes para las plantas, se liberan. Los restos de las plantas se acumulan en la roca erosionada. Gracias al trabajo de las ra&iacute;ces de las plantas, los animales del suelo y los <a href=\"https:\/\/greencoolschools.eu\/es\/glossary\/microorganismos\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Los microorganismos, tambi&eacute;n llamados microbios, son criaturas microsc&oacute;picas que no se pueden ver a simple vista. La formaci&oacute;n del suelo se produce desde arriba por la descomposici&oacute;n y putrefacci&oacute;n de los restos vegetales y desde abajo por la erosi&oacute;n de la roca madre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&iquest;Qu&eacute; especies pueden crecer directamente sobre la roca?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Los l&iacute;quenes son criaturas especiales porque son un h&iacute;brido de hongos (&iexcl;no plantas!) y algas (la forma m&aacute;s peque&ntilde;a de plantas) o de hongos y cianobacterias (&iexcl;no plantas!). Las cianobacterias y las algas pueden realizar la fotos&iacute;ntesis y, por tanto, obtener su energ&iacute;a de la luz solar. Los l&iacute;quenes solo necesitan los minerales del polvo que transporta el viento y los nutrientes que aporta la lluvia para satisfacer sus necesidades vitales. Por ello, pueden vivir en todo tipo de superficies, como rocas, paredes, suelo, madera, etc. Necesitan sitios especiales como estos porque crecen muy lentamente y, de lo contrario, otras plantas los cubrir&iacute;an. Algunas especies de musgo tambi&eacute;n crecen en las piedras. Muestra a tus alumnas y alumnos la manzana y haz una comparaci&oacute;n entre la manzana y la Tierra: &laquo;Imaginad que esta manzana es la Tierra. Los compuestos de hierro oxidado dan al suelo colores &laquo;oxidados&raquo;, como el marr&oacute;n, el rojo y el naranja. Los compuestos de manganeso oxidados colorean el suelo de color marr&oacute;n-negro.
