Cuando llueve sobre piedra caliza, se forma \u00e1cido carb\u00f3nico (H2CO3) a partir de H2O y CO2 y disuelve la cal. Los organismos del suelo tambi\u00e9n pueden alterar qu\u00edmicamente el suelo y las ra\u00edces pueden remodelar mec\u00e1nicamente el suelo.
